SAN MARINO

GRADARA
Its castle dates back to the XII century.. Walking through the paths of its walls, crossing the inside bridge and reaching

THE PATH OF THE GNOMES
The path of the gnomes is an easy journey of 2 km in the fantastic bush of the mount Arminia, in Bagno di Romagna.
During your walking in the nature trail, if happens to you to capture a speedy sudden movement among the bush, look hard!
You could notice a red tip hat... that belongs to one of the several gnomes that live in this bush, at the point that Bagno
di Romagna has been recalled "THE COUNTRY'S GNOMES". This fantastic trail hosts wooden little houses, animal characters and
stone scultures, a very fairy tale.The trail is equipped, safe and appropriate for all children. It is important to face it
with respect for the environment and if you really wish to see or hear a gnome, you must forget your doubts and let to be
transported by fantasy. |

THE GHOST OF "AZZURRINA"... The ghost of Montebello
In the 2nd half of the XVI century, in a castle of Montebello (near Rimini) there was a strange disappearing a young girl.
She was Guendalina Malatesta, but nick named "the Azzurrina ghost". The girl was "ALBINE" and for the medieval times was sign
of suspect and fear and for that reasons she was accused of witcht craft. For that she was destined to an awfull death. Their
parents were worried about this terrible destiny and decided to colour her hairs with an herbal potion that made the color dark,
but that, with the contact of the air, spreaded blue reflex. For that, all the people began to call her Azzurrina. The history
tell us that her strange death took place inside the castle on June 21th 1375. Azzurrina was playing inside the castle with a ball
made of tissue and rope, and suddenly disappeared as faded in the air.From that date, each 5 years, in the night of the summer
solstice, in the Montefeltro castle appears the Azzurrina ghost... she laugh or she cry and it is possible to hear her voice.
Today thousands of persons visit the castle, not only for the historic-artistic value, but even for the Azzurrina Ghost. |

BERTINORO
Since the "iron age" Bertinoro is still a medieval suburb. In this pleasant suburb it is possible to taste the famous ALBANA wine,
from here the name of Bertinoro. The history tells us that in ancient times Galla Placidia visited the nice suburb and tasting
the good wine said" you must be drinked not in a such rugh goblet, but in gold"... from this sentence was born Bertinoro. 30 KM |

CASTROCARO
Inside its fortress the legends tell us about the history of loves and deaths... The most known is that of the young girl
Margherita, forced to marry her cousin Guidone, even if she was in love with another young boy. Her deep sorrow made her choose
the highest tower of the castle and in a windy night, without moon, she let her fall down... Nowadays someone tells that in some
nights, without moon, it seems to hear her love cry, that the wind carries through the valley. Castrocaro is famous for its Thermae,
its medieval summer feasts, where it is possible to live the "dinner in tavern", in the costumes and with the typical food of

PREDAPPIO
The history of Predappio dates back since the roman period, when August divided Italy in 11 provinces, and Predappio was part
of the VI province... Even his name seems to come from an ancient family the "APPI", from which the place was named "Praesidium
Domini Appi"... Pre Di Appi. In Predappio remain the ruins of a castle, an ancient church and the ruins of a roman villa dating
the 1st century A.C. You will find even archaeological remains that testify the presence of human settlement since the Bronze Age
and roman times. In Predappio were born 2 important historic names: Benito Mussolini, chief of the fascist dictatorship and Adone Zoli.
In the cemetery of the near suburb of San Cassiano are buried both families. |

SARSINA AND THE COLLAR OF SAN VICINIO
This collar is famous in all over the region "Emilia Romagna" and not only. Each year from all over Italy come people to appeal
for health and comfort. San Vicinio lived between the III and the IV century and it is said that the bishop was elected directly
from God and that the collar, belonged to the Saint. In the moments of prey and meditation he weighed his neck with an heavy stone,
hooking it up to the collar or with one chain... this was his "cilicio". Nowadays the collar is used to bless sick and obsessed
persons, psychopathics or possessed by devil. It is said that the collar is the hand of the Saint and that with his strong
intercession by God, gives saving grace to all the persons getting on his altar. |

SALINE OF CERVIA
The "Saline of Cervia" are the" White Gold" of this small town and its birth dates back to the roman times. "Salario" comes
from "sale" (salt), and was a part of a fee of the roman soldiers. They are considered an high naturalistic interest as well as
for the typical landscape. Since 1979 they are animal repopulation National Natural Reserve. Kingdom of almost 70 wildlife birds
like pink flamingoes, "cavalieri d'Italia", "avocette". They eat the little microorganisms present in the silt of their water.
It is worth a visit to the museum of the salt activities, in a building named "Magazzini del sale" (the salt warehouse). 20KM |

CERVIA AND THE SEA MARRIAGE
Nowadays we still don't know if it is legend or reality. In 1445 Pietro Barbo, bishop of Cervia, was hit by a tremendous storm
in a sea and in order to save his life and those of the ship's company gave his pastoral ring as pledge. All the crew was safe and
he promises that each year in the Ascension day would have celebrate this event with a solemn ceremony. Each year, infact, from then,
the bishop celebrates the event and bless the Adriatic sea and all the boats, takes the wedding ring where are written the words:
CERVIA, SEA WEDDING, YEAR... After the pronunciation of these blessing words he throws into the water the ring tied in a ribbon.
A group of guys is ready to plunge into the water and try to catch the ring. The lucky person who finds the ring is considered
protected by fortune and prosperity. Some guys keep it as a souvenir or a proper wedding ring. 20 KM |

POTTERY OF FAENZA
Faenza is famous all over the world for its pottery.The creation of the traditional pottery is the need of water containers
as bowls, pitchers,pots, jars,etc... thanks to the earth rich in red clay, coming from the river bed of the Lamone. In 400', thanks
to the oriental and Spanish influencies in the craftsmen laboratories developed a wide number of decorative drawings. Adding the
tin to the glaze composition was an important innovation that made more clear and shine the surface of the creations. It's worth
a visit to the rich international pottery museum located in the ex cloister of San Maglorio. |

THE GAMBETTOLA'S PRINTS
The "xilografia" is an engraving on the wood and is the same operation made to print manual canvas tissue, for the local tradition.
In the past the printed tissues were destined not to rich families but poor. The decorations impressed in the canvas were a sort of
economic substitute of the rich tissues, that normally were embroidered with precious methods. For the printing, one special ink made
of vinaigre, flour, iron rusted chips was created. From this method the name of the iron rusted print, with sweet oxidized iron.
Each artisan owns his proper exclusive recipe of the ingredients. |
